Senior Chief Petty Officer Kenton Stacy has received numerous awards including a Purple Heart and two Bronze Star medals. He served his country in the Navy as an explosive ordinance disposal technician in more than 50 combat missions. He completed one tour in Iraq and two in Afghanistan.  On November 9, 2017 on his final deployment in Syria he sustained a Spinal Cord Injury when a Improvised Explosive device (IED) went off while he and his team were clearing a 2nd floor hospital building.  The explosion immediately fractured his C1-C2 vertebrae leaving him paralyzed from the neck down, blind in his left eye and barely able to talk due to injury to his vocal cords.  He would spread the next 3 days fighting for his life undergoing 8 surgeries, using 42 pints of blood to eventually be able to wake up opening his eyes to his family next to him.  It was a miracle that Kenton would even survive this horrid accident.  Today as a veteran, Kenton is working towards gaining more independence and becoming a more active member of society by going to movies and dinners with his wife and 4 kids. He is adjusting to his life after a Spinal Cord Injury.  The grant he received has helped with providing in home therapy.  With electric stimulus Kenton can move his legs on an exercise bike and with assistance he has been able to be vertically inclined for longer periods of time without having his blood pressure increase.
